Fitting out for high latitude sailing

So, you’ve got a boat and you want to go somewhere interesting.

Maybe, somewhere off the beaten track.


High latitude sailing is becoming more and more popular, and we are seeing constant increase of number of yachts coming to the Arctic. 2020 was obviously quite exceptional, but last year Svalbard has been visited by nearly 200 boats.


Though there are many bespoke ‘expedition’ yachts on the move, there are still a few ‘hardy’ who are bringing ‘off the peg’ production boats to these extreme areas.


This article explores some of the thoughts and modifications you might want to think about when preparing your yacht for high latitude sailing.
